Woodland Wonder
As a child, I was transfixed by the artwork in Beatrix Potter’s storybooks. Her soft watercolor palette and whimsical creatures interacting with human characters sparked my imagination; I wanted to follow the rabbits into their alcove and discover their secrets. On family vacations to the Redwoods of Northern California or camping trips to Big Sur, I would take strolls in the forest, where I’d convince myself that birds and squirrels could understand me when I spoke to them, or that fairies were hiding behind mushrooms and resting in the shade of ferns. This sense of childlike wonder at the natural world inspired my mixed media child’s cape.
