Vintage Carnival
Cotton candy. Carousel rides. Midway games and prizes. Walking through the fairgrounds taking in the sights and smells that make up memories: 4-H animals in barns, artwork displayed in the student showcase, taking a bite of an annual funnel cake or caramel apple tower. These images and more collectively inspired my Vintage Carnival capsule collection for Sunflower Girl. Growing up in the seaside town of Ventura, California, going to the annual county fair was a highlight I always looked forward to; for years it took place in the fall, then eventually switched to late summer. Therefore, my garments are transitional in fiber and weight. The handwoven fabrics in this collection were created on a floor loom, dobby loom, and jacquard loom. The silhouettes and color palette evoke daydreams of some of the happiest times of my childhood.
